Fiber folk: There’s a very good chance today’s guest Deborah Robson is someone who you’re familiar with from her incredible book Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook, written in partnership Carol Ekarius. This book became a staple in my fiber library, introducing me to the vast array of sheep breeds and the qualities of their fibers. There’s a special story behind how this book came to be, along with Deborah’s rich fiber journey as a weaver, spinner, knitter and editor. I hope you enjoy getting to know this incredibly knowledgeable woman as much as I have. You can find Deborah at drobson.info.

This book has been on my to buy listening for awhile. Loved Deborah’s final comments about why what we do is important (and not anachronistic!)
This magazine is new to me, I have been hearing about it here and there and am really excited to check it out! How did I miss it for so long? New episodes are such a joy!
I am so excited about this contest to possibly win a subscription to Taproot Magazine! Ever since I heard you talking about the bread issue I couldn’t stop until I found an issue on eBay because it was discontinued on the website… We are building a earth oven, so this issue is like gold to me. Now I can’t wait to go back and get the other issues that I have not read… Good luck to everybody on this contest and thank you to Ashley and Taproot ❤️❤️
I’ve always wanted a taproot subscription and never managed to get around to signing up. Awesome sponsor, awesome giveaway, awesome podcast as usual!
Crossing my fingers the giveaway is open internationally! I love Taproot magazine ❤️ can’t wait to listen to the new podcast this evening near the fireplace!
What a wonderful episode! Being a student of paper restoration, learning about paper fibres, I had no specific interest in textile fiber until I landed on this website, but I have been listening to Woolful and now I’m afraid I am going to have to ask my grandmother to teach me how to knit. Taproot magazine looks absolutely wonderful too. We are lucky that you all give us access such inspiring stories, so thank you.
Taproot is an inspiring venture and magazine
Oh, I LOVE Deb Robson! What a cool choice. I treasure her work, too.
I just found your podcast through Sandy by the Lakeside Podcast. I loved listening to the interview with Deb Ronson. As a new spinner and weaver, I enjoy learning as much as I can about anything fiber related.
Thank you for the chance to win a subscription!
I so look forward to these posts, and would LOVE a subscription to Taproot. I live in beautiful Victoria BC, where I am about to retire to devote my full time to knitting and weaving. Making a trip to Shetland Islands in June. So exciting!!
Great interview! What would we do without Deb? 🙂
Great interview. Watched her Craftsy class and have her book.

Oh, what a lovely ending! Personal creativity, independence and connection, yes, so true. I was especially struck by the comment about how digging deep into our true interests is valuable. Words of wisdom. Thank you!
It’s so inspiring and reassuring, in a way, to hear these stories of people who have lived and worked with fiber for so much of their lives, when you are only just starting out yourself. As always a wonderful episode and a lovely giveaway. All the best.
Terrific episode, as usually. Happy Thanksgiving.
Loved the interview. I’m going to purchase her book. The Taproot magazine is intriguing. Will have to explore that soon!!!

This was such an enjoyable episode. In fact, on the strength of Deb’s mention of “Your Handspinning”, I ordered the book. I look forward to starting over learning how to hand spin. Thanks!

Taproot and Woolful; two beautiful publications of material that support people who want to connect with the earth and show our gratefulness for what it can provide to us. Great connection for the week of American Thanksgiving. Thanks for a great show!
Another amazing episode that kept me company while driving to work, Thank you so much <3

Fantastic interview. Enjoyed hearing about the intricate details this team focused on to present the fiber…barn board , mat. And the intent behind the photography. All in all, gives me a feeling of fluidity. Going to the top of my Christmas wish list!
Thank you for yet another great podcast!
I have to invest in the book; it sounds absolutely amazing!
Oh, my goodness! As a young editor, longtime knitter, brand new spinner, and sheep lover, this episode was right up my alley. Such an inspiration!
Wow, what an endeavour! It is so nice to be seeing more variety in available wools these days. Thanks!
Such an adventure. Love the honesty and perspective.
Loved learning about the process that goes into a fiber book.
Can’t wait to listen to this episode of your podcast! My fiber journey began a long time ago but the older I get the more my passion grows. Your podcast has been a huge part of my education more recently.
Deb Robson’s research is referenced each and every time I go to a fiber event or consider a new knitting or spinning project.
This was my favorite episode yet. So amazing to hear of the work, time, and passion that goes into making a fiber book.
I completely love my fleece and fibre source book! It really interesting to hear about the woman that created it and her journey! Thanks again
Deborah’s deep involvement in fleece is amazing. What knowledge.
I’m just learning how to hand spin, so this is so fun to learn!
I can’t wait to listen to this episode! I am new to this scene and this book is next on my to buy list. I can’t wait to listen to the lady behind it. Thank you for finding such wonderful stories!
Wow. Taproot sounds amazing! I stumbled onto your podcast about a month ago and have already learned so much. Thanks for being a leader in the community!
Just received my first issue of Taproot. Indulgence not to have to wait for the library copy. I love Interweave Press. A good friend was editor of the Herb Companion and I would visit their magical workplace with her.
I’m new to this podcast and can’t get enough!!!
Hope I’m not too late! I would love to see what everybody is raving about! It looks so lovely.
I was just watching Deborah’s Craftsy class about different kinds of wool the other day. I want to buy her book but I don’t know if I’m ready to take my obsession to that level yet haha. I’m trying to be content with my drop spindle for the time being. If I learn too much about wool I’ll not be able to stop myself from buying a spinning wheel.
Another fascinating episode. I loved hearing some of the details behind the book, which I already own but have not spent enough time with. That will be remedied.
I’ve been weaving since 1979, and just discovered your podcast. I found you through Ravelry and am now listening to it on my half-hour commute to work. I love NPR, but these days I just can’t stand the political news, so I’m going to have to listen to all of your back episodes. Thank you for such a nice, easy to listen to, and informative podcast for us fiber-types!
And now I’ve discovered a new magazine! Thank you for such a generous free offer. Whoever wins will be a lucky camper.
What a great podcast! I found all the info on the photography for the book very interesting. So many details.
Great episode. I think I’m going to have to add Fleece and Fiber to my bookshelf!

Deborah’s remark about her friends retiring and feeling that their careers are coming to an end while she felt that hers just kept getting more exciting was so, so inspiring. The joy she feels in her fiber life and future filled me with hope and positivity.
Love Deb Robson!
