Fiber folk: Nearly two years ago I received an email from Tanis Lavallee. It began as a conversation, which then spurred a new journey for her and her husband Chris’s seasoned hand dyed yarn business, Tanis Fiber Arts. It’s been inspiring to watch from afar and hear more about the leaps of faith these two have taken in their business over the years, as a husband and wife team, parents and entrepreneurs – so much hard work and dedication. I hope as you get to know Tanis today that you’ll be motivated to pursue your dreams, take those leaps of faith and inspired to stick with it for the long haul. You can find Tanis at tanisfiberarts.com and on Instagram @tanisfiberarts.

Inspiring episode as always!
Very well done!
loved listening and enjoying some quiet personal time as i delved into doing the leg work for my first sweater design. thank you for the inspiration!
Great episode – hugely informative
I love all her colorful projects!
Always look forward to hearing a new episode of Woolful! Thank you
I am such a fan of Tanis and her yarn. I’ve been seeing quite a few versions of the R&R hoodie on Instagram. So lovely.
Lovely episode, Tanis’ yarn was my first indie yarn and I still love her! I haven’t tried PureWash yet, thanks for the chance to win!
Oh, pick me, please!
Have long loved Tanis’ yarn and designs. Wonderful episode as usual!
Another great episode, Ashley! I enjoyed hearing about Tanis’ superwash to pure wash journey, and thank you for your inspiration regarding superwash awareness for us all.
Great discussion on sourcing of yarns. Beautiful yarns & patterns!
Oh this would be such a fun prize to receive in my mail box! 🙂 Keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed! 🙂
Last winter I knit a pair of mittens for my daughter with a Tanis Arts kit and she loves them. It was very interesting and educational to hear how the yarns are no longer superwash.
I love the hoodie and enjoyed listening to this week’s podcast. I’ve heard good things about plum deluxe tea.
Wow. This would be a fabulous prize to receive. Thank you for sharing it.
I’d loooove to try PureWash yarn someday!
Another great podcast. I have followed TFA for a long time and love their yarn (and the hoodie is in my queue already). Thanks for the opportunity. Also, I love the picture of the Biches & Bûches sweater, but can’t figure out which is the pattern/kit in their shop or where I can find the pattern.
Can’t wait to listen. I love TFA’s amazing colours and would be thrilled to win!
TFA yarns have always been a favorite of mine. So great to hear her voice and their story! Thanks for always finding such wonderful people!
Tanis’ colors are brilliant. I wish I could try them in every single base! Thanks for sharing this story.
The R&R Hoodie is exactly the pattern I’ve been looking for! Thanks for posting it!
I’m fairly new to your site and really enjoying your Pod casts! I’m learning so much! Thank you!
I recently finished a hat in PureWash and loved it! Can’t wait to get more.
Loved listening to your interview with Tanis. I never really thought about how much hard work and sacrifice goes into making the beautiful yarns that we use. This podcast was very enlightening. Thank you.
Beverly
Very excited about this one!
Such a thrill to hear Tanis tell their story. Love all their yarns and colours. Very professional website.
What a lovely gentle interview, a good reminder of how taking time & thoughtful care can give so much, thank you.
Always enjoy the conversation around superwash. Love that Tannis was able to make the change!
I was so happy when Tanis went in this direction as I had been a long time fan but was leaning away from buying anymore Superwash. Great post.
I loved this so much! It was great to hear the stories of TFA and also how PureWash came to be. Thanks for sharing your story Tanis!
Tanis is one of my very favourite yarn people, and it’s such an amazing thing to be able to listen to her talk about yarn – thank you!!
Just sitting down to listen, and I had a thought. I know(!) it’s more work, but is there any way to have a sort of map or guide that groups those you interview regionally? That way, if we’re going to Maine or the Pacific Northwest or NYC, we can do some “guided listening” beforehand? I’m tempted to do it myself, but I’m not super programming-savy…
Love your podcast. It is my favorite one to listen to on my walks! Thank you.
What a generous giveaway – thank you. I’ve used TFA yarns in the past and loved them; excited to try the new PureWash line. And thank you for the podcast – always interesting and inspiring!
Tanis fiber arts had been on my bucket list and after you podcast it went to the top.
What a wonderful episode! I have heard of TFA but have never tried them. Now I definitely need to try them out.
So lovely. I bought some of Tanis’ yarn years ago on a trip to Montreal and have been a fan ever since
I need to try this yarn and that hoodie. Thanks for another great listening experience and knitting session.
That hoodie is great! I haven’t tried Tanis yarns yet but would love to!
This was one of the best episodes yet. I’ve been following the ups and downs of super wash wool and I’m anxious to check out Tanis’ new yarn base. And I loved hearing about her love affair with color. I can never settle down with one color so I have too many projects going. Thank you so much!
Another great episode! Thank you Ashely for sharing!
What a fantastic story about growth and influence. Thank you and Tanis for this.
So pleased to learn about a fellow Canadian who is making ethical choices in producing her yarns. I can hardly wait for her next shop update carrying the Purewash yarn!
I had (apparently) already been following TFA on Instagram, so I really enjoyed getting to know more of her story! Will have more perspective will I see the posts in the future. 🙂 Also, PUMPED about the Kal. Ordered my yarn yesterday!
I loved the podcast with Tanis and can’t wait to try TFA yarn. You’ve educated us about superwash and introduced me to a fabulous alternative. Her patterns are great, too. Thank you!
I remember when I first walked into a LYS in my city and saw Tanis Fiber Arts’ brilliant colours, it was the beginning of a serious love affair with yarn and knitting. I was so excited when I saw you were interviewing her on the podcast and it was so great to hear of the big switch she’s made!
Loved listening as always!
First time listener. Been following TFA for a long time.. this was a great way to learn more about such a great little company!
What a joy to hear that a yarn like pure wash exists!!! So happy
I’ve been following Tanis for a long time, I love her yarn and I’ve read all of her blog posts. I can’t wait to hear the interview!!
Love Tanis’ yarns and love that she’s growing as a fiber artist and adding PureWash to her line.
Omgosh I’ve been such a fan of TFA for so long and it’s so great to hear a voice to go with all the blog posts and Instagram photos I see 🙂
My favorite sweater in TFA yarn is my I Heart Aran….it’s so cuddly and I’m dying to try both the new Eco Friendly yarn and that hoodie!!. I’ve never done pockets or zips before, so it would be a perfect challenger 😀
Loved this episode! So inspiring to hear about her natural progression in making fiber her families livelihood. And the photos on the blog are a wonderful accompaniment.
Tanis’ story is inspirational and thought provoking as we all strive to live on this gentle earth. Her yarns have been amazing through the years and am so glad for her new GOTS certified additions. I’ve tried to secure so I’m hopeful and grateful for this opportunity. Thank you both!
I really love this podcast. So inspiring! Can wait to try Tanis new base, and I love to know that it’s more “environmental” friendly. Thank you both!
Lovely podcast; lovely prize! Hope I win!!
I was fascinated by the thoughtfulness of your guest, Tanis. I feel inspired by her commitments – to her family, to her business, and to the environment. I will be looking to buy her yarn to support her and her husband’s endeavor.
As usual, Ashley, job well done.
Another wonderful “conversation”. I just love your interview style.
Tanis has an amazing eye for color, and I always look forward to her Mood Board Monday posts!
I cannot wait to try Pure Wash. The project I have planned is a baby blanket. I have some of Tanis’s yarn and her color sense is beautiful. As a follower of her blog it was great to hear her story.
Ohh, what a giveaway! I am really enjoying the PureWash and Tanis has the most amazing colors!
First I have to say I’m so happy Podbean recommended your podcast … I really enjoy your interviews!!
This was a great interview, I had no idea superwash was so bad for the environment … makes me rethink what I buy (which is good with Rhinebeck coming up). This is my first into to Tanis and her company … and I couldn’t wait to stop driving so I could see ‘Lucky Penny’ … and WOW!!! I do have to say, if I were to win, that would be my color of choice.
Thank you again for the work you put into such a quality podcast.
Thanks for the chance.
ANOTHER AWESOME EPISODE! I’M A HUGE CHEERLEADER FOR PureWash and appreciate the journey to get there. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing their story. As a mom of grown kids I also want you two moms to know that I applaud how you love & cherish your children! And I applaud that your husbands are awesome dads : )
Grateful to be connected with yarn & more – Sandra
I knit so many hats, leg warmers and other baby gifts and often use super wash to make life a little easier for young mothers. So good to learn about an alternative – I had no idea of the plastic/yarn usage! Your podcasts always inspire me and I generally learn something new.
I enjoyed hearing the story of Tanis Fiber. I remember the episode 2 years ago about superwash products and how I felt like I should give away all my superwash. I didn’t which is good. It does have a place when you’re knitting for non-knitters. However, it’s good to know about the option that Tanis now offers. I love the Tartan fingering you have shown on the blogpost.
Love ALL of this, thank you for making such a lovely podcast happen.
A wonderful podcast.
Thank you for the opportunity to win such wonderful yarn.
TFA has been my yarn of choice for quite a while now and I really appreciate knowing more of the back story of how it came to be. I feel good knowing I am supporting small business and I get beautiful yarns
I just caught up on all the episodes today, which let me tell ya is super sad. But plus side I finally! Get to enter the giveaway but what a super week for that. Thanks so much for endlessly expanding my knitting world and knowledge of all these great makers and farmers and designers. It’s so inspiring and calming, definitely makes days at my desk more enjoyable.
I’m grateful for the introduction to new fiber!
What a delightful interview and very generous giveaway!
Love her can-do spirit and her commitment to making the hand-dyed marketplace a little greener! The politics and environmental aspects of superwash yarn are tough to navigate so it is nice to hear she is changing minds and supporting organic and local growers in the process of educating consumers!
Thank you for the opportunity to win such amazing prizes! I have yet to try Tanis Fiber Arts but the colors are all so lovely!
Great to hear about a commercial alternative to “superwash” and an extra bonus- Made in Canada! Definitely on my yarn radar now, thanks for the chance to win. Beautiful colours too.
I’m a great fan of Tanis! Off to enjoy the episode! 🙂
Thanks for a wonderful and informative podcast. I enjoyed listening to Tanis.
I’ve been reading Tanis’s blog, buying her yarn and patterns for many years. Her colors are so beautiful and consistently high quality. I was only able to snag a couple of skeins of her pure wash but plan on buying more in the future. I always learn so much from each episode. Thank you!
Recently, I began listening to your podcast & I’m hooked! It has helped me to feel inspired, & to think deeper about being a maker. I’d love to knit a sweater and have the opportunity to work with gorgeous Tanis yarns, while sipping tea on a chilly New England evening. Added bonus: my daughter is named Stella!
Another well curated show. Thank you
Sigh, could the swoony goodness get any more swoony?
Ashley and Tanis, thank you both, for all the thoughtful and wonderful care of the craft.
I’m so excited about the new yarn Tanis and Chris are making! Thanks for this episode.
Another wonderful podcast Ashley! I love Tanis’s patterns and yarns. I look forward to trying her Purewash line of yarns.
What a great episode!
Awesome podcast! TFA yarns are my favourite to use and I can’t wait to try PureWash.
Enjoying this episode right now! Thank you!
<3 Tanis Fiber Arts! Thank you for this episode.
I cannot wait to get my hands on some PureWash!!!
Thanks for the education about Pure Wash!
Such a fabulous episode! It is always a joy to listen to people who are so passionate about what they do.
I love your podcast and I love TFA!
Wonderful
Very interesting to hear about the purewash; lately I’ve been having to put longer toes on my husbands socks as his workboots felt the soles and toes into quite a stiff state. Thanks!
I love this story. TFA took such a careful, thoughtful, deliberate approach to being more conscience of their impact on the environment. They took a measured approach and obtained real success. I like it. It’s good food for thought. I like the lesson.
Very interested in the discussion about superwash yarn and the fact that there is an alternative. I did grow up and start knitting in the time before superwash, so I learned to wash woollens carefully. I think knitters should understand that it is not difficult or even particularly time consuming. However, an alternative Eco friendly process is a bonus choice for knitters who want to make environmentally friendly choices.
Stayed up much too late finishing the podcast but I really enjoyed it!
Happily knitting and listening.
To build a successful creative business without a single loan….wow!
I love to listen to the trail of circumstances that leads one and all to fiber/yarn. It is a nice way to connect with others.
I’ve been following TFA for a long while. It was nice to hear from Tanis in her own voice. Her journey is inspirational in the sense that she ‘follows her dreams and instincts’..
Loved this episode very much! So inspiring in many ways.
Being a mother with a young child and having dreams starting something in the yarn / knitting world.
Thank you! Love to participate in the give away!
Solid episode, and definitely inspiring 🙂 Makes me think it’s about time to throw another batch of yarn in the pot, haha.
Loved the podcast as we follow Tanis Fiber. It was wonderful to hear their journey from starting and growing their business. An encouragement to take risks and do what you are passionate about, grow the business in steps without incurring large amounts of debts is wise, All my best to Tanis Fiber as they continue what they love to do.
Wonderful interview! It was great to hear more about Tanis’ journey and I’m so excited about TFA’s move to PureWash. <3
I was so pleased to listen to the Tanis podcast as I’ve been a big fan from a long time ago. It was interesting to hear how the business evolved, and good for you for taking things step by step. The first time I used Tanis yarn was for a knit a long at my LYS, the Purple Purl. I chose the Stormy colourway and made a February Lady sweater which is still worn and always receives compliments. I had never knit with yarn with such lovely rich and textural colours. Since then, I have used Tanis yarn many times, and now wait to see the new colours at Espace Tricot when I visit my sister in Montreal. Thank you for your wonderful products, and would love to be able to try the new PureWash yarns.
I am very impressed with Tanis’s conviction to find another option to super wash yarns. Like Tanis, I began questioning my yarn choices after learning more about the super wash process. It has been a struggle to find hand dyed yarns that are not super wash. Thank you Tanis for giving knitters this gentler option! Your drive, creativity, and passion are inspiring.
Great to hear Tanis describe her journey! Have loved watching their family and yarn business grow and change. I am eager to try her new Purewash Yarn. 🙂
Another wonderful interview! I love TFA yarn. The colors and quality are amazing.
I have been following Tanis’ blog for a few years now and I’m so impressed with her. I’m currently knitting (and occasionally ripping) a hat with her new Purewash DK and I can say I’m loving it and looking forward to getting more in the future. Thanks, Tanis, for an excellent business model and a product line taking environmental considerations into account. Keep up the good work!
My Lord, THIS is a prize package I’d adore to have – wow! Big fan of Tanis’ work here, but haven’t tried it yet. Go, Tanis!
Thanks for opening my eyes to alternative to super wash yarn.
Big fan of Tanis’ yarns and looking forward to trying the new PureWash!
This was great…I loved hearing about Tanis’ story!
I have loved being a customer of Tanis Fiber Arts. I have enjoyed her blog and have been totally blown away by the beauty of her hand dyed yarn. Her wee ones are such a wonderful bonus! As a grandmother and a woman that raised two little boys it warms my heart to see thus little family and know when I buy her yarn it goes to these sweet faces. Thank you so much for featuring her on your podcast! It was an enjoyable listen!
Great write up and the photos are wonderful! Tanis has such a great colour sense. Now I’m off to wind my skein of Pink Label lace in ‘Lotus’! p.s. I’d love to know what colourway those socks are made with!
Wonderful episode!! Fabulous give-a-way! Thank you..
Another pleasurable, educational and inspiring listen. Thank you!
I have loved Tanis’ yarns since I started knitting in 2012. So great to hear her story in person and I am particularly excited about the move to Purewash yarns!
Loved hearing Tanis’ story. I have followed Tanis and her family on Instagram and wish her much happiness.
Love the podcast and Tanis Fiber Arts. Thanks for the chance to try the new yarn!
I just love Tanis! Great episode!
I love TFA. It was great to hear her story in person! I am so excited to try her purewash yarn.
Loved it!
Loved hearing this podcast and learning about Tanis and her business. Love her yarn!
Wonderful podcast. Thank you so much for all your hard work.
The Tanis R&R Hoodie is adorable!
This was such an amazing podcast! Thank you for interviewing such an inspiring individual in the knitting world. What a lovely story!
I had the great fortune of discovering TFA yarns in a yarn store before Tanis and Chris scaled back to online only. So glad I did! Thank you for having Tanis on your podcast. She is an inspiring person.
Wonderful podcast this week….as are all the weeks. I love Tanis’s sense of color!
I’ve loved TFA since the beginning of my knitting career!
Awesome podcast! Romykins on rav
Love the podcast and enjoy the artists and their artistry
Love that she’s canadian! Such lovely yarn and a lovely podcast. Thanks so much!
I say this this with every new episode, but another inspiring podcast! I am in awe of Tanis and how much she has accomplished. She and her husband seem to make an amazing team and it was wonderful to hear their story. I loved hearing how they grew the company a little at a time taking on only what they felt the could handle. Really inspiring to hear and great advise in anything you want to do.
Thanks for another inspiring conversation – I love your podcasts!
This was the first episode I listened to and I loved it. TFA is one of my favorites.
I never have time to listen during my busy season (gardening) so what a joy to tune in and listen to Tanis speak about my new favorite yarn PureWash!
I love the colors of the Tanis yarn! I loved hearing about how the couple works together for the business in the podcasts, too. Excellent episode.
I loved this podcast – everything from talking about how Tanis started her business to the superwash discussion. I loved when she emphasized how it was a risk at the time for her to leave her day job to do this, but she loved it and wanted to nurture it to grow, so she took that step and hoped for the best; I’m definitely in a place where I couldn’t just drop my day job for the work I truly love, but to hear about someone else who was in the same sort of financial bind as I am now who was able to do that is incredibly inspiring. And, of course, I love your talk about personal convictions and what we can do on a small scale for ourselves in our lives. Great podcast, as always, and I’m excited for my next payday so I can try out some of Tanis’s new yarn!
Yay!! Thanks so much for this episode! Tanis fiberarts was the very first hand dyed yarn I ever knit with all those years ago… I’m so obsessed with yarn now, and I work at a yarn shop, so it’s hard to remember that at one point this was all brand new to me, but yeah, it all started with some Tanis. Beautiful stuff, great interview. Thanks again Ashley! I’m so glad you keep putting out these podcasts. they’re perfect for tea and knitting 🙂
I’ve followed Tanis for awhile and I am so excited by the shift to Pure Wash… This interview was fantastic to hear her speak about her experience and her business. Thank you so much!
Great knitting, delicious tea and something wonderful to listen to. I am ready for fall!
Once again you bring us a podcast full of inspiration, entertainment and woolly love. I always do a little fist pump of joy when I see a new Woolful up. Thanks again! x
Oh my GOSH I would LOVE to win this post’s giveaway! As a new mom, I loved hearing about Tanis’ work/life/mothering balance. Thanks again for another great podcast!
Another great episode, Ashley! I loved hearing Tanis’s story and it is so great to know of another company using an alternative to super wash (and a Canadian dyer no less!).
Loved listening to this! I had never thought about the impacts of superwash yarn before. I learned something new and will be thinking about yarn differently!
Thank you for another lovely episode!
Loved this episode. I never knew that super wash yarn had a coating, I just thought it was de-scaled. Glad to know this and I will make wiser and more green purchases.
Thanks for introducing me to Tanis Fiber Arts! I had no clue about the superwash wool issue- it never occurred to me before. I’m so glad there is an alternative- which I am excited to try. Love the podcast- thanks for sharing it all.
I love everything about this post!
Also had no idea about the superwash wool issue! Great podcast and loved hearing from Tanis… Such yummy colours!
Another exceptional podcast! Love hearing all the stories.

I always learn something new from your podcasts! Love them!
I’ve knit with the PureWash and it’s lovely
What a great podcast. Ive never listened before but it will definitely be something I do routinely. So excited for TFAs purewash to be available. I’m dreaming of all the sweaters I can knit in it.
Tanis has beautiful yarn. This is my first time listening to the podcast but it won’t be the last.

Oh, I can’t wait to listen to this episode! I follow Tanis on Instagram, and I’ve been eyeing her yarn and patterns for some time. I also recently received some Plum Deluxe tea in a ravelry swap.

Wonderful to have a “voice to go with” the face/yarn, and so happy to have found your podcast via Tanis’ IG account.
Consider me entered, please.
I love TFA and tea! What a great podcast!
Loved this episode (and all of them!). Being from Montreal myself I am so pleased to be able to support TFA in all their fiber adventures. I’m particularly excited to try PureWash, and can’t wait to knit with it. Shout out to Espace Tricot which is seriously one of the ABSOLUTE BEST yarn stores ANYWHERE! Not suprised they are the only retail outlet they continue to deal with. 🙂
What a wonderful giveaway. I have been a fan of TFA for a long time and her yarn is scrumptious!!! Can’t wait to find out if I am the lucky winner and pick a great colour for knitting that great hoodie!!
Totally awesome giveaway! Tanis Fiber Arts is the first yarn club I ever tried back in 2013 and I scored a lot of her skeins when the Mouline store in Montreal stopped being a stockist and held a massive TFA sale. I still have a lot of her skeins in my stash, always on the lookout for the perfect pattern. I was a fellow Montrealer for years, I love how she shares her passion for yarn and color in her blog that I’ve been following for years now.
I love Plum Deluxe!
It is very exciting to see an eco-friendly super-wash in the market. I am a huge TFA fan and so happy that Tanis and Chris and responsible for this!
I love Tanis’ yarns! Her colourways are so gorgeous!
Great Episode! I’ve been a fan of Tanis for awhile; love the yarn clubs, never been disappointed
Fingers crossed that I get to try the new TFA purewash yarn!

Great episode! I really enjoyed hearing about the evolution of TFA, and how Tanis and Chris make it work for their family. I’d love to win the giveaway, along with everyone else! Ragardless, I can’t wait to try this beautiful yarn.
I am new to Woolful and was drawn in by my interest in TFA. Thanks for featuring Tanis and their wonderful yarns!

I love Tanis and TFA! Such a great episode, I’ve never listened before but I hope to tune in often going forward
Thank you for the chance to win!
Tanis Fiber Arts Blue Label in Orange Blossom was the yarn I used to knit my first pair of socks. I purchased it in 2008 at Ram Wools in Winnipeg MB. This started my love affair with hand dyed yarn. Thanks Tanis & Ashley. <3
Kudos from another (former) Montrealer now in Idaho! You ladies are inspiring indeed.
I have just discovered WOOLFUL, thanks to Tanis Fiber Arts. I have been using TFA yarn for the last 3 years, almost exclusively, and am delighted with the new direction and WOOLFUL. I live in beautiful Victoria, BC, where we are bracing for a windy, rainy storm in the forecast. What better way to start the fall/winter on the coast than with knitting up a storm of my own with purewash yarn!
I’ve knit Tanis’ Coolbreeze cardigan and it is one of the items I get the most compliments on. And it earns it. Those colors just work so well together! She had a talent, for sure!
What a great podcast. So great to listen to Tanis and her journey and conviction to yarn. Thank you for offering a great prize package. Would love to knit that hoodie.
Thank you for the beautiful blog post and podcast! I’m brand new to your blog as of today, thanks to an email from Tanis. Looking forward to trying PureWash and making a cozy R&R hoodie! 🙂
I love everything TFA and am totally excited to try the PureWash! Thanks so much for the giveaway!
Thank you for the continued inspiration! Love Tanis’ yarn.
Delighted to find your lovely blog! I recently discovered TFA and as a fellow Canadian, am happy to support her business. Would LOVE to make that gorgeous hoodie and try out her newest yarn — thanks for the chance to win!

Very inspiring! Long-time TFA fan. Absolutely no one does colours like Tanis and Chris. They produce yarn where the most subtle nuance can be surprisingly vibrant and the tiniest detail can be incredibly significant. Very talented duo! Clearly a great deal of loving effort goes into their work. And kudos for caring enough to introduce the new PureWash yarn. So proud to see fellow Canadians succeed! 🙂
Loved the podcast with Tanis. Thank you for the wonderful contest opportunity.
Thanks for the chance to win. I would love to knit the hoodie.
I recently made some hats for my kids with Purewash, and liked the more “wooly” quality of this environmentally-friendly superwash yarn. Looking forward to seeing more colours.
TFA was my first ‘fancy-schmancy ‘ yarn and I waited and waited to use it because I wanted to keep it for good. Using it gave me a great excuse to buy MORE. Lovely post.

What a great episode! Such a wonderful business x family life philosophy – the PureWash story included. Would love to try some of this gorgeous, colourful yarn.
I so enjoyed this! I’ve never really been into podcasts, mostly because I didn’t have a convenient way to listen. But I wanted to give this a shot because I’ve been a fan of Tanis’ blog for a little while. So lovely to hear about the operation and how it aligns with regular life. I have got to get some of their yarn…
Being a beginner, in a sense, to the knitting world, I’m slowly making my way through different styles of knitting. But one thing especially, when I was starting out, I didn’t think about how the yarn was processed. And as I have become older I have become more aware of how many of my day to day items are being processed. I mean pay attention to what I’m putting into my body or my dogs, but I never really thought about yarn, until I heard the podcast, TFA’s blog post back in June and the Woolful Fiber-Conscious blog/article. After I listened and read all of the information, I was truly inspired that TFA is trying to make a difference, without sacrificing quality. I love the Purewash and very excited to see what TFA does next!
Loved hearing about Tanis Fiber Arts. Great episode! Great giveaway!
Have akready made R&R Hoodie using this yarn but would be absolutely delighted to win more of this awesome yarn and make another!

So exciting to hear Tanks talking about her work. I’m a huge fan of her gorgeous yarn and instagram feed.
Great episode with a fellow Canadian Tanis Lavallee! I have long loved her yarns – beautiful to knit with, and gorgeous, beautiful colours. What I like even more is the dedication that Tanis and Chris give to their family first, business second, which is often-times the hardest part of being an indie company. Their values, passion for a great product, and their love for home and hearth are tops!
I’ve been following Tanis’ blog for a long time but this is the first time I’ve ever heard her voice. Really enjoyed listening to this interview. It always warms my heart to see people living their dreams and actually making things work for their entire family. And the fact that Tanis and Chris are both artists makes it even more special. They are obviously a great team with all the right priorities. I have a feeling that all this color and creativity will rub off on Rowan and Micah. It’s definitely in their genes. Keep up the good work, and yes, I’d LOVE to knit Tanis’ sweatshirt with the Purewash yarn. What a treat that would be! Hugs from Kimmy (KimmyZ on Ravelry)

I’ve been a fan of Tanis Fiber Arts for a long time (since that first Easy shop) and have always enjoyed reading about her opinions and adventures but getting to hear her voice was a really wonderful new experience. I love to shop from Tanis because I enjoy the feeling of connection she provides (through her blog and Instagram and the little thank-yous and postcards tucked into parcels) and because I like knowing that my purchase contributes in a meaningful way to actual people whose names I know.
Thank you to you and the donors for the lovely giveaway!

I love Tanis! I’ve been following her blog for years but I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never bought any of her yarns (I rarely buy online). I would be overjoyed to win some and finally knit with it!!
I’ve been really interested in Tanis’ switch to Purewash, so it was great to hear more about her thought processes. Thanks for a wonderful interview.

Just discovered your wonderful podcast. Having knit many beloved socks from TFA blue I so enjoyed hearing Tanis speak about her company.

I am so filled up from listening to this episode while weaving today. I actually looked at her website earlier and was surprised by what I saw as superwash, and then to hear the story was so exciting! Loved her story about growing business and family and her honesty about the struggle. I find it to be so true as I raise my two kiddos and own a restaurant! I dream of starting some kind of fiber business someday and have another source of inspiration now <3
I remember meeting Tanis way back, probably 2009. She came to the Knitters Frolic in Toronto and we all got excited about her lovely yarns. I’m glad to see how things have progressed for her and her family. Keep up the great work! Also the podcasts are very sustaining a maker with a demanding full time job. Great to get my fix of the maker community through Woolful.

Ashley, thanks so much for creating such an interesting and well curated podcast… I’ve just recently found it and am burning my way through as many episodes as I can. I’m thrilled too to learn about Tanis and her thoughtful and beautiful dyeing business.
Absolutely loved this episode. So incredibly inspiring. I absolutely love the business model TFA has and the priority they put on their family life.
Listened to this lovely podcast while out on my walk. Got home and listened all over again while also checking out Tanis Fiber Arts on line! Wonderful story, beautiful product.
Lovely podcast & beautiful yarns!
Life’s been crazy busy, and I’ve “been away” from listening to your podcast for a while. I’m so delighted to hear about what Tanis Fiber Arts is up to! I was at Stitches West last February, and I tired to buy local and not super wash. I did leave with some super wash, but I also have some prized yarns that are not super wash, and I asked for non-super wash options while there. As a consumer I am interested to see what the dyers will innovate once there is a stronger market for non-super wash, and I want to communicate that interest to them. So excited to support this avenue.
I love hearing your podcast!
What a fabulous episode! Tanis is truly an inspiration. Not just for Pershing her dreams one step at a time, but for being willing to risk for the sake of following her convictions. I hope many more dyers will choose to question the origins of their fibers by her example!
What a giveaway! Thank you!! Would love to win!!
I love listening to the podcast whenever I have enough time to sit down and knit. Thank you for doing such an amazing job, Ashley. Also I have been looking for a good zipper-hoodie hand knit pattern so I’m probably buying it regardless of the giveaway; which is of a spectacular nature this time round.
Wow! Thank you and this last podcast was amazing. They just get better and better.
Listening to the epsiode has inspired me to search for non-superwash yarn and begin adding it to my stash. Thank you for another interesting episode.
Wonderful podcast as always! I look forward to curling up with a craft and listening to these after the children go to bed. I don’t usually make it to the website to leave a comment, but this week’s giveaway was just too exciting to pass up!
Great episode this week – what a wonderful thing when your side project becomes your life’s work! It was also a relief to hear that hand washing superwash yarns is recommended – I don’t think I’d ever feel comfortable throwing my hand knits in the machine! 🙂
As always, thank you for the beautifully inspiring episode!
Amazing! I’m so glad j found you on Insta. Can’t wait to listen to more of your new podcasts and catch up on the old. Thanks for an amazing giveaway!

I just discovered this podcast. So wonderful to listen to!
Another great episode. I’m so glad to hear of dyers using Pure Wash. Thanks for bringing Tanis Fiber Arts to my attention.
I’m behind on my podcast listening very I had to jump ahead with this comment because yarn and tea are my favorites!
Another great episode! Thank you for keep doing this Ashley.
Such beautiful yarn!
Thank you for her another lively, inspiring episode. You really are one of the best interwievers I’ve ever heard. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us, Tanis. I really love how you managed to transition into non superwash wool. Only thing missing was the voice of the man doing the dyeing, bring him next time
I love a creative woman who can juggle work, family, self while ‘giving’ all with a smile and positive attitude! (and by giving, I mean sharing her craft with all the eager yarn shoppers of the world )
Love your podcast and all the makers you share with us!
This was one of my absolute favorite podcasts!!! I recently ordered 2 skeins of Tanis Fiber Arts rose grey & it is unbelievably beautiful. I love how this is such a family business. Thank you for this podcast!
Oh that beautiful yarn and all those gorgeous little people. So many great comments too. Thanks for the fantastic episode!
So much loveliness! I have been wanting to try pure wash *crosses fingers*
I am a new listener and am completely hooked! A beautiful job. The yarns are beautiful and I would love to try the tea Thank you.
I haven’t ordered any TFA yarn yet but can’t wait to try their pure wash – I just can never quite get the etsy updates to mesh with my schedule! Someday I’ll knit my niece a Christmas in July sweater, and hopefully all out of Tanis yarn.
Beautiful! What a generous giveaway!
Ashley, I continue to enjoy hearing about life in northern Idaho, almost seems like a different country than here in southern Idaho. Have you had a chance to spin any of the German angora I sent to you? I would make great use of a sweater’s worth of delightful yarn as well as the book, tea and pattern.
Great episode! I look forward to adding some PureWash to my stash.
I loved listening and learning from this podcast. I feel like I learn something new everytime I listen. What a generous giveaway. Thank you Ashley and Tanis for this opportunity.
Warmly ~ Zoë (EspressoBean on ravelry)

Your podcast has inspired me to be creative and hopeful again. I have loved everything I’ve heard, but Tanis’s story has been, beyond a doubt, the most touching story because it relates so closely to my life right now. I cannot thank you (and all of your guests) enough for the love and work you are doing.
Wonderful and inspiring as always!
Oh! How I enjoyed this podcast. Tanis’ story has inspired me to learn more, and, quite frankly has informed a new resolution for me! And for some reason that I can’t quite put my finger on, I am seriously craving pumpkin spice tea now too!
My husband’s favorite socks were made with Tanis’s Purple Label, and all her colors are gorgeous! I love that she’s created this new base, and can’t wait to try it out (even if I don’t win the giveaway 😉
My very favorite thing to do….knit and listen to a Woolful podcast!
Thanks for another great interview and give away!
Loved hearing Tanis’ story, and her little life sound so dreamy. LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of the new PureWash and can’t wait to get my hands on some. For some reason I’m always drawn to the colors of superwash yarns, but ever since reading your blog post try to avoid them. Excited to finally have the best of both worlds 🙂 Thanks as always for your lovely stories. xox
I hope more dyers follow Tanis’ lead and add an Eco -friendly superwash to their inventory. Love her sense of color !

Thank you for another inspiring episode. I have wanted to get more involved with not just buying yarn but, like many who buy from farmers and have the mills spin and produce, then I would love to take the journey to dyeing fibers. I know I have alot of experimenting to do,but the whole process is exciting. I learning to knit from all of the fabulous craft driven people out their ,offering tips and basics to get started.I have crochet at a very young age,and my determination and desire to knit has now become my obsession to make lovely things. Thank you for the opportunity .

Oh my! So happy to hear she isn’t using superwash now..it prevented a purchase by me in the past. Such lovely colors and eco friendly!
So cool to hear your story! Really love knitting, I’m a newbie and have only done scarves but I want to learn to do socks this winter on break and then a sweater!! Thanks so much for the encouraging story of how you started, I’m a college student, so to know that I could do more with this eventually is exciting.
